Project Description
The Boosting Tourism in the NT project aims to revitalize the Northern Territory's tourism sector by developing DiscoverNT, a web and mobile application powered by AI. The app offers personalized recommendations, real-time event updates, offline maps, and social engagement features, enhancing the overall visitor experience. By promoting local attractions, fostering cultural connections, and supporting sustainable tourism, this project seeks to attract more visitors, boost economic growth, and improve the region’s standing as a premier tourist destination.
Data Story
The Northern Territory's tourist industry experienced a sharp 33% reduction in visitor numbers from 297,000 to 199,000 between 2019 and 2024. The sector has to deal with a number of challenges, which are reflected in this decline: less visitor participation; delayed information; and external variables such as economic fluctuations and travel restrictions worldwide. Strategic measures are now necessary since these problems have eroded the NT's tourism industry. Through an analysis of these patterns, this research pinpoints important avenues for improving guest experiences, encouraging digital solutions to increase engagement, and cultivating long-term growth in the tourism industry in the area.
