Project Description

Rising Electric Vehicle Adoption

In recent years, there has been a discernible upsurge in the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs), notably evidenced by a substantial rise in Electric Buses and Light Commercial Vehicles since 2019. This remarkable growth can be attributed to a confluence of factors, including government subsidies, incentives, evolving consumer preferences towards sustainable alternatives, and the environmental appeal of the green option. Our projections indicate that this trend is poised to sustain its momentum beyond 2023.

Watt Spy: Pioneering EV Innovation

Introduction:

To meet the burgeoning EV demand, our dedicated team introduces the pioneering "Watt Spy" app. Drawing inspiration from the successful PetrolSpy model, our application addresses the evolving EV landscape. Meticulous analysis allows us to gauge EV density, predicting and automating charging station demand in densely populated EV areas.

Empowering User Engagement:

The app surpasses prediction with a comprehensive feature suite. Users play a pivotal role in shaping EV infrastructure by employing the manual request function. This adaptive approach caters to the evolving needs of the EV community, fostering a dynamic ecosystem.

Price Comparison Innovation:

"Watt Spy" introduces an innovative price comparison feature, enabling users to evaluate charging costs across stations. This transparency equips users to make cost-effective charging choices. Empowered decision-making ensures efficient EV operation.

Catalysing Sustainable Mobility:

"Watt Spy" transcends being a mere app. Seamlessly integrating data insights, user engagement, price comparison functionality, and futuristic design, it's a catalyst for sustainable mobility. As we redefine the EV journey, together we pave the way for a cleaner, greener tomorrow.

Data Story

Our team efficiently use multiple datasets to analyse factors by visualisation and create a forecasting model. With our findings, we come up with an idea of Watt Spy supported by data.

The datasets and studies used are as follows:

1. For vehicle types and state (growth rate of EV by state and by vehicle type):

Road Vehicles Australia

2. ACT government incentives to explain the highest growth in EV by state:

ACT electric vehicle subsidies and incentives

3. VIC government incentives to explain the highest growth in buses:

4. For location factor in Victoria (proportion of EV against other motive power by regional or major cities area):

5. Classification of postcodes follows the ones given here:

Designated regional area postcodes

6. For time series model, the yearly sales of EV is taken from the Electric Vehicle Council. We can deduce that this trend is explained by some factors that we found above.

Challenge Entries

Explore the relationship between vehicle types and the uptake of EVs

The challenge is to analyse vehicle registration data and explore the relationship between vehicle types and the uptake of EVs. Identify and analyse factors that may influence the adoption of electric vehicles.

Charging Electric Vehicles in the ACT

The ACT’s zero-emission vehicle strategy includes several incentives to purchase EVs, as well as a plan to expand the public charging network to 180 charging stations by 2025. To build this network of charging stations, it is important that government understands where the greatest need for chargers is across the territory. How can this be measured, and how can we assess the effectiveness of public EV chargers in Canberra?
